Torrie Allen is a national arts leader whose work is driven by the conviction that creative infrastructure is foundational to resilient, civil, and flourishing communities. Over the course of his career, he has led organizational and divisional transformations and directed and helped direct more than $500 million<\/strong> into rural and urban areas across the United States. His expertise has supported the National Endowment for the Arts<\/a>, state arts agencies, academic institutions, and local leaders nationwide, particularly at moments of strategic inflection and change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2019, Allen has served as President and CEO of Arts Midwest, advancing one of the nation\u2019s six U.S. Regional Arts Organizations<\/a>. He is successfully building on the organization’s 40-year legacy of service, including more than $62 million invested through 7,000+ grants in all 50 states, reaching hundreds of thousands of Americans annually<\/strong>. Under his leadership, Arts Midwest has committed to a bold new vision to support, inform, and celebrate Midwestern creativity through greater sector amplification, collaboration, and alignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival<\/a>, Allen was recruited to scale the organization\u2019s approach to philanthropy, delivering sustained annual contributed revenue increases of 13% to 20%<\/strong>, expanding development operations across four major metropolitan regions<\/strong>, and stewarding a national community of more than 16,000 individual and institutional supporters<\/strong>. Prior to that, he led the statewide rebrand of Alaska Public Telecommunications, Inc. to Alaska Public Media<\/a>, significantly expanding the institutional visibility and statewide engagement of Alaska\u2019s largest broadcasting company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Artistic and Executive Director of Anchorage Opera<\/a>, Allen restored operational stability and creative vitality, enabling the company to reach its 50th anniversary as a thriving regional producer. During his tenure, the organization was recognized by the Paul Allen Foundation as a creative \u201cbright spot\u201d in the Pacific Northwest. Earlier, at Americans for the Arts,<\/a> he directed the National Patrons Council, one of the nation\u2019s leading networks of arts philanthropists and business leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before his career in arts administration, Allen spent a decade as a professional opera singer, appearing at leading international venues including Op\u00e9ra National de Paris, Teatro Real Madrid, Prague Rudolfinum, Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), Smolny Cathedral (St. Petersburgh, Russia), Carnegie Hall, Houston Grand Opera, and the Aspen Music Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He currently serves on the board of Minnesota Opera<\/a>, previously served as Chair of National Arts Strategies<\/a>, co-chaired the founding of the United States Regional Arts Collective, and served on the board of the National Independent Venue Foundation<\/a>. Throughout his career, he has served on numerous boards, advisory committees, and arts funding panels across the public and private sectors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A frequent keynote speaker, Allen has presented at international convenings and guest lectured at Yale University, Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Michigan, and other leading institutions. He holds degrees from UCLA and the Boston Conservatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
